The Opalis website targets architects, private individuals and contractors who are interested in buying or selling reusable materials. The website’s visitors get a detailed overview of the building materials that professional traders have on offer.
Opalis is an initiative of Rotor, a non-profit organization that was founded in 2005 to look into the practice of reuse in various sectors. Their studies have shown that, on the one hand, there are plenty of possibilities for using reclaimed materials, yet the professional agents in Brussels make insufficient use of them, and on the other hand they have pointed out that a lot of potentially reusable materials leave Brussels’ building sites without ever reaching the traders. Opalis, then, wants to bring supply and demand together.
